Professions

This assignment was inspired by August Sander. An old photographer who also made a lot of pictures of people in their own professions. You can find more of August Sander at the tab ‘Inspiration’. What i admire from August his photography is that he can really get the authenticity of someone in his picture.

I wanted to photograph professions which are a bit neglected or forgotten in my idea. That’s is how I started my research. Then I discovered several doll makers, clockmakers, glassblowers, shoemakers and hatters. I started calling and here we are.

I am very happy with the portraits I made. Especially with the market man because this has really been shot in the moment. You see a certain expression on his face that was only there for just a split second. I think the photo of the shoemaker is the least because the light was simply very unflattering here.
